doctor check up

As spring begins and winter draws to a close, do not discount the chance of getting sick even as the weather makes you crave snow cones rather than soup. The flu, with its multiple strands, as well as other respiratory illnesses and stomach bugs mean that anyone is liable to catch something. This season, use the following tips to guide you and your family’s practices in order to be in the best health ever to enjoy the spring:

  • Wash your hands frequently. This tip may be the best way to prevent transmittable germs. Washing your hands is vital after spending time in public places that have many communal surfaces you can touch that would transmit bacteria and viruses. Instill in children the importance of washing hands as well.
  • Avoid touching your face, especially your nose and mouth areas. This is extremely important if you are around someone who is ill or if you are infected.
  • Incorporate the use of hand sanitizer in your cleanliness practices. If you are in a situation where you are unable to wash your hands, it is a great second option. Any time you touch your nose or mouth areas, wash your hands or use hand sanitizer/wipes.
  • Clean household surfaces well. Viruses can live on counters, sinks, and appliances for hours after an ill person has used them. Consider using disinfectants on said surfaces.
  • Launder pillowcases, sheets, and towels in hot water frequently. Make sure every family member has his or her own bath towel. Consider replacing hand towels in restrooms or the kitchen with paper towels. Germs can live for hours on hand towels.
  • Eat well, get plenty of sleep, and drink lots of water. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is one way that you can easily make sure your immune system is bolstered against potential infections. Reduce stress levels to make sure your immune system is in tip-top shape.

Just a few simple steps can make sure that you can go through your day without catching something that might upset your life for weeks. Improving your family’s health is easy with just a few small steps each day.
